Queensland Advocacy Incorporated (QAI) is calling for criminal lawyers!
QAI is an independent, community-based systems advocacy and legal advocacy organisation for people with disability. Its mission is to promote, protect and defend, through advocacy, the fundamental needs and right and lives of the most vulnerable people with disability in Queensland.
QAI is looking for criminal lawyers who will volunteer to be on their roster to be available after hours to provide legal advice (via telephone) to people with a disability being interviewed at north Brisbane police stations. QAI has recently commenced the
Justice Support Program (PDF - 77KB) which provides volunteers to support victims, witnesses or defendants in criminal justice matters. In some cases, volunteers will be seeking to link clients with legal advice if they have been or are likely to be charged with an offence.
