The Office of the Commonwealth Ombudsman considers and investigates complaints from people who believe they have been treated unfairly or unreasonably by a Commonwealth Government department.  The Commonwealth Ombudsman also has oversight of some private sector organisations.

This is a free and independent service tasked with the responsibility of ensuring actions of agencies are fair and responsible by:

  • handling complaints
  • conducting investigations
  • performing audits and inspections
  • encouraging good administration.
