CEO



Margaret O'Donnell
Board member since November 2004

Margaret O'Donnell was appointed chairperson in September 2005. Ms O'Donnell is a former Director-General of three Queensland Government Departments: Equity and Fair Trading, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Policy and Development and Arts. She was Victoria's first Legal Ombudsman and established and ran the Alternative Dispute Resolution Division in the Department of Attorney-General and Justice in Queensland. Ms O'Donnell is a freelance consultant and contributes her expertise to a number of other boards.




Peter Callaghan SC
Board member since March 2008

Peter is an experienced barrister at the Private Bar specialising in criminal law.




Iyla Davies
Board member since June 2005

Iyla Davies is a Senior Lecturer in the Law Faculty at QUT. She coordinates the undergraduate family law program and the postgraduate mediation program. She is also currently the National President of Relationships Australia and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. She has previously served on community service committees including the Specialist Accreditation Board of the Queensland Law Society, Lawyers Engaged in Alternative Dispute Resolution and the Australasian Law Teachers Association.




Vincent Knauth
Board member since July 2005

Vincent Knauth is a chartered accountant with expertise in economics, commerce and business management. Mr Knauth, who spent nearly three decades working in the aviation industry as an air traffic controller, began his own chartered accounting practice in 1989, specialising in business taxation, superannuation and trust account auditing.




Dan Toombs
Board member since November 2007

Dan Toombs is the Chief Executive Officer and Principal Solicitor of The Advocacy & Support Centre (TASC), a not for profit organisation dedicated to protecting and advancing the rights of the most marginalised and vulnerable in Queensland. TASC has offices in Toowoomba, Ipswich and Warwick and provides direct legal and advocacy services to south-west Queensland. Dan was awarded the 2006 Queensland Disability Award, Highly Commended 2006 National Human Rights Law Award and was further awarded a 2007 Winston Churchill Fellowship.




Jenny Hardy
Legal Aid Queensland CEO

Jenny Hardy has built a career around improving people's access to legal services and has extensive experience within the legal aid sector within the Northern Territory and at a national level. She was the deputy director of the Northern Territory Legal Aid Commission for four years and spent five years advising National Legal Aid on policy and law reform issues as its executive officer. In particular, she has helped improve Indigenous people's experiences with the justice system through her various roles with the North Australian Aboriginal Legal Service and the National Aboriginal Youth Law Centre. Awarded the Law Council of Australia's Young Australian Lawyer of the Year in 1993, Ms Hardy has experience in criminal, family and civil law and has worked in defense, prosecution and policy roles.
