The Strategic Policy team provides policy advice to Legal Aid Queensland (LAQ) management, the LAQ Board, the Attorney-General, the Department of Justice and Attorney-General and other state and federal government departments about policy and law reform proposals that will impact on our operations, how we provide legal services to clients or client outcomes.
The unit’s role also involves:
- identifying legal or policy issues that affect our clients and advocating for changes to policy or legislation to address those problems
- ensuring the financial impacts of government policy decisions affecting LAQ or its clients are considered in the policy development process.
The staff of the Strategic Policy team work with key teams and legal staff within LAQ to develop our responses to significant law reform issues.
