Training

Women's Legal Aid conducts regular training for both LAQ staff and non-government organisations.

WLA provides training within LAQ for new staff, grants officers and solicitors on a number of issues relevant to women. For example, gender awareness training (see below), best practice standards for working with people affected by domestic violence and sexual violence training, implementation of the risk assessment tool, cultural awareness training, domestic violence training and issues for specific women's communities such as Filipino women.

Training for non-government agencies has been conducted on how to apply for a grant of aid, various legislative changes that may have an impact on women, and access issues.

Gender awareness training

Women's Legal Aid delivers gender awareness training to LAQ staff as part of our overall objective to improve the responsiveness of LAQ to women.

The aim of this training is:

  • for participants to develop an awareness of how values, assumptions and beliefs about gender impact on work with women clients
  • to improve the standard of service delivery to women clients.

Women's Legal Aid also delivers gender awareness training to other government departments and community agencies. If you would like further information on our gender awareness training please contact us on 1300 65 11 88.
