Arrangements in Magistrates, District, & Supreme Courts for 12-22 January 2021

All Legal Aid Queensland duty lawyer services will return to in-person appearances from tomorrow, 12 January 2021.

Updated advice about court appearances in the Greater Brisbane area:

In the Magistrates Courts in the Brisbane, Logan, Ipswich, Moreton Bay Regional and Redland Council areas from 6 pm today to 1 am 21 January 2021:

  • All entrants to those courthouses will be required to wear masks at all times outside of the court room. Arrangements within the court room are being firmed up. It is likely that where social distancing is not possible masks may be worn in the public gallery and taken off at the bar table in the courtroom. Failure to comply with these requirements may result in refusal of entry/removal from the courthouse
  • Staff serving at counters will wear masks and when in public areas
  • Subject to the availability of prisoners, and directions by local Magistrates all matters will continue as per normal.

Information will be posted on the Court website and local notices to this effect are being prepared.

In the Supreme & District Courts in Brisbane, Ipswich and Beenleigh from 6 pm today to 1 am 21 January 2021:

  • All entrants to those courthouses will be required to wear masks at all times until at the bar table in the courtroom. Masks may be removed when seated or speaking at the bar table. Failure to comply with these requirements may result in refusal of entry/removal from the courthouse
  • Staff serving at counters will wear masks
  • Subject to the availability of prisoners, all matters except jury trials will resume and
  • Jury trials will resume on Monday 18 January 2021 with masks to be worn (further advice on specific arrangements is being obtained from Queensland Health).

A revised ‘Protocol for Application’ in the Supreme Court will be issued later today.

**** Please note that in relation to the arrangements within a Court, these will be at the discretion of the sitting judicial officer unless otherwise advised at Court.
