Main Content Anchor

The Suicide Call Back Service is a free nation-wide telephone support service for people at risk of suicide, their carers and those bereaved by suicide.

The Suicide Call Back Service supports callers through a series of six structured 50 minute telephone counselling sessions, scheduled according to the person's needs. It operates twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Professional counsellors, with specialist skills in working with suicide-related issues, assist clients to work through difficult emotions.

Who is eligible for referral to the Suicide Call Back Service?

Those who are eligible for support through the Suicide Call Back Service can be identified as:

  1. Clients who are suicidal
The Suicide Call Back Service supports clients who are suicidal and have little or no access to support.

  2. Clients who care for someone who is suicidal
The Suicide Call Back Service also supports people caring for others displaying suicidal behaviour. We provide carers with practical strategies on how to care for people at risk, with a strong focus on the carer's health and ability to set boundaries.

  3. Clients who are bereaved by suicide
Our counsellors are highly trained in postvention support and are available to provide professional support to those bereaved by suicide. Bereaved clients are encouraged to contact the service, regardless of the amount of time since the death of their loved one.

  4. The Suicide Call Back Service is especially suited to people who are geographically or emotionally isolated.
