Main Content Anchor

Located within the Office of the Public Guardian, the Guardianship Information Service is focussed on helping guardians understand their role as a substitute decision-maker. The service can provide information about the guardianship process and the legislative requirements for substitute decision-making.

The Guardianship Information Service is a free service providing information about:

  • the rights, responsibilities and legal requirements as an appointed guardian or informal decision-maker
  • the role and authority of a guardian
  • good decision-making practices.

The Guardianship Information Service does not supervise or monitor the actions or decisions of guardians, or make decisions for an adult with impaired capacity. The intended purpose of the Guardianship Information Service is not to act as a watchdog over formal or informal decision-makers.
