The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has victim liaison officers to help victims of crime while their case is going through court.
Victim liaison officers keep the victim up-to-date with progress of the case and tell them when the case will go to court. They may organise for the victim to meet with the Crown prosecutor to talk about the case. The victim liaison officer, working with the legal officer or the Crown prosector, also makes sure the victim understands what will happen at the trial or sentencing and how the court process works.
Victim liaison officers can only help people during the court process. A victim liaison officer can refer victims to specialised services such as court support or counselling.
