Legal aid is only provided for bail applications when: • there is a strong likelihood of bail being granted; and • bail is opposed by the prosecution. Based on the information you have provided about your case, we do not believe your matter meets guideline 6 - bail. You may file your own bail application. For your assistance, a Bail-by-mail self-help kit is available from either Legal Aid or the Prisoner's Legal Service. Both the Legal Aid prison advice service and the Prisoners Legal Service can provide you with very basic advice about what to put in your application, but will not assist you with the forms. When the forms have been completed, you can send the documents to the Prisoner's Legal Service who will file the documents at court. Both Legal Aid and the Prisoner's Legal Service can be rung from the community access line in your unit.
