DNA Historic Case Review

In 2022 and 2023, Commission of Inquiries into Forensic DNA Testing in Queensland identified issues with the way DNA samples were collected, tested, analysed and processed in the state.

They found DNA laboratories at Queensland Health Forensic and Scientific Services (QHFSS) did not measure up to best practice in several ways, which could impact the outcomes of past and present criminal cases.

The inquiries made several recommendations, which included a review of all criminal cases impacted by the findings.

As result, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) is now reviewing criminal cases potentially affected  date back to 2006.

Queensland Police Service is also conducting a review of unsolved cases that may have been be impacted by the findings.
